Bhubaneswar: Odisha found themselves trailing by 47 runs against Assam at stumps on Day 2 of their Col. CK Nayudu Trophy (U-23 Men) multi-day match being played at the KIIT Cricket Stadium here on Monday.
After Assam were bowled out for 216 in 80 overs, Odisha reached 169 for 3 in 50 overs at the close of play, with opener OMT Munde and P Sasanka steering the innings with composed half-centuries.
Earlier, resuming from their overnight score of 200 for 9, Assam managed to add just 16 runs before being dismissed for 216. The innings revolved around Rajveer Singh’s superb 105 off 218 balls, which included 11 fours. Kabir Hassan Deshmukh (37) provided brief resistance, but the rest of the batting faltered against Odisha’s disciplined bowling attack.
For Odisha, Ritesh Priyaranjan (4/38) was the pick of the bowlers, maintaining tight control over long spells. Ayush K. Barik (3/40) also impressed with his accuracy and movement off the pitch.
In response, Odisha got off to a solid start with OMT Munde leading the charge. The right-hander crafted a fluent 84 off 130 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes, while Panakala Sasanka scored a steady 48 off 90 deliveries. The duo built a crucial partnership to keep Odisha in contention.
For Assam, Rajesh Prasad (2/36) bowled with discipline, while Mayukh Hazarika (1/48) chipped in with a wicket.
At stumps, Odisha were 169 for 3, still 47 runs behind Assam’s total, setting up an intriguing Day 3 battle.
