Itanagar: Anini, a remote town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley district, has been recognised at the national level for its growing adventure tourism appeal, officials said on Thursday.

The destination was named the Best Emerging Adventure Tourism Destination at the 17th Annual Convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, which was held in Srinagar on Wednesday. The award was received by District Tourism Officer Lamwang Aran from Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah.

Aran said the recognition reflects the combined efforts of the state Tourism Department, local stakeholders and the residents of Anini, who have worked consistently to promote adventure tourism while preserving nature and following responsible tourism practices.

Surrounded by high Himalayan peaks and dense alpine forests, Dibang Valley is home to the Idu Mishmi community and is known for its scenic landscapes, trekking routes and rich cultural heritage.

Popular adventure activities in the region include the Seven Lakes trek, Aeyo Valley trek, Pomo Winter trek in the Zambra Valley, which is the natural habitat of the endangered Mishmi Takin, and the culturally significant Athupopu trek, officials said.
