A seminar on ‘Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and Social Change in India’ held at Utkal University.

Bhubaneswar: The Centre for Ambedkar Studies of Utkal University on Tuesday organised a seminar on ‘Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and Social Change in India’ to mark his 66th death anniversary.

While discussing Dr. Ambedkar’s vision on social change, Utkal University’s Vice-chancellor Professor Sabita Acharya pointed out the relevance of his thought towards women’s emancipation in Indian society.

Former Professor and Head of Department of Political Science Prof. Surya Narayan Mishra said Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas on social change were reflected in his writings and lectures. Everybody should be treated equally irrespective of caste, creed, gender and religion.

Director of Migration & Education Thematic Unit in Aide-et Action International Umi Daniel stressed on the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar towards welfare of labour.

Director of the Centre for Ambedkar Studies Dr. Rabindra Garada also elaborated philosophy, perspective and practice of Ambedkarism unlike that of Marxism and Gandhism for social change in India.

PG Council Chairman Prof. Durga Shankar Pattanaik chaired the meeting, HOD of Political Science department Dr. Smita Nayak introduced the guests. Around 200 attendees including students, faculties and staff participated in the seminar.

Assistant Professor of Public Administration department Dr. Jyotirmayee Tudu proposed the vote of thanks.
