Bhubaneswar: The National Highways Authority of India has received as many as 64 bids for the ambitious Rs 8,307.74 crore Bhubaneswar Bypass project, signalling strong interest from infrastructure players across the country.

The 111 km six-lane access-controlled Greenfield Capital Region Ring Road is aimed at easing traffic pressure in and around Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Khurda. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve connectivity and smoothen vehicular movement across the region.

According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, NHAI had floated tenders for the project in three separate packages. Package I attracted 23 bids, Package II received 25 bids and Package III drew 16 bids, reflecting healthy competition across all segments.

Officials said nearly 96 per cent of the required land has already been acquired. The project has also secured necessary forest, wildlife and environmental clearances, clearing the path for its execution.

A senior officer at NHAI’s Regional Office in Bhubaneswar said the contracts are likely to be awarded by March 2026. Construction work is expected to begin soon after the award and is targeted for completion within two and a half years.

The Ring Road will run from Rameshwar in Khurda district to Tangi in Cuttack district. Approved by the Union Cabinet, the project will be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Mode in three packages.

Apart from decongesting urban traffic, the corridor is expected to reduce logistics costs, create employment opportunities and support long-term economic growth. Officials added that the project will promote safer, faster and more sustainable travel in the capital region.
